Robot Guided Tours
Curating robot 'QI' Guided Tours Service
QI is an AI-operated, self-driving robot designed to use speech recognition technology to help visitors navigate the exhibition halls and exhibits. QI can accompany visitors to the major exhibitions – a total of 21 rooms – such as Prehistory, Ancient History, Medieval History, Early Modern History and Immersive Digital galleries. The robot can provide a guided tour or show visitors the way to the restroom. QI services are available in three foreign languages (English, Chinese, and Japanese) along with a sign language function for the hearing-impaired.
If you encounter QI and wish to talk with it, start by saying “Hi, QI!” Through its voice chat function, QI can carry on conversations about the museum exhibitions as well as general topics like the weather. It can explain 19 of the exhibits with interactive videos. This service is available on the first floor of the Permanent Exhibition Hall, where you can find exhibits including the Digital Stele of King Gwanggaeto the Great and Ten-story Stone Pagoda from Gyeongcheonsa Temple Site. Guests can learn about these topics as they answer the questions posed by QI.
QI is part of the core technology used in our smart museum, building on artificial intelligence, voice chatting, autonomous driving, and big data strategies. Since the introduction of QI as a pilot project in December 2018, the museum has continuously raised awareness about the robot guide and has worked to upgrade QI’s capabilities to meet users’ needs.
