Gong with Inscription
Gongs are used at Buddhist temples to signal gatherings and meal times. This gong has three knobs and an inscription of eighteen Chinese characters around the rim. The inscription reveals that this type of gong was once called a “geumgu.” Made in 865, the fifth year of Silla’s King Gyeongmun, this is the only extant geumgu from the Silla period.
