This is a compilation of poems exchanged between Ni Qian (1415-1479), the envoy from Ming China who had come to announce the enthronement of Emperor Daizong, the seventh emperor of the Ming Dynasty (r. 1449-1457), and Jiphyeonjeon scholars who greeted the Ming envoys. According to Ni Qian, “Engaging in conversation with Joseon scholars over a single night is better than reading for ten years,” a remark suggesting the sophisticated literary diplomacy of Joseon.
