Texts about Rituals Written by Kang Sehwang

This work presents texts on rituals that were excerpted from several scriptures by Kang Sehwang (sobriquet: Pyoam). They relate the meaning of rituals and the mindsets and attitudes of descendants who respect their ancestors. Kang wrote them gracefully in regular script within red borders, giving a sense of reverence. Kang’s calligraphy emulated Chinese calligraphy of the Northern Song and Ming Dynasties. In particular, Kang studied and applied the calligraphic styles of Mi Fu (1051–1107) and Dong Qichang (1555–1636). This work shows Kang’s calligraphy from his later years, which combines a relaxed mood with energy.
