Ferry Dock (R) Crossing the River (L)

These two images belong to a painting album of twenty-five landscape, figure, flower, and horse paintings attributed to the court painter Yi Hyeongrok.
The painting on the right depicts a scholar on horseback and his attendant waiting for a boat to cross the river. In the painting on the left, two boats are crossing the river carrying scholars with their attendants, travelers, women in long cape-like outer garments, and several horses. These two genre paintings illustrate people setting off a journey against the backdrop of a river.
