Calligraphy and Painting
According to Geunyeok seohwajing (Dictionary of Korean Calligraphers and Painters), Yi Gyo-ik, a civil official of the late Joseon period, was skilled at nature painting, especially butterflies. This album mainly features paintings of flowering plants with insects (including butterflies), flowers and birds, animals, landscapes, figures, and customs. In particular, he deployed a keen sense of innovation and realistic techniques in the drawing of chickens, rabbits, butterflies, and other creatures.
