Poem by Zhu Xi
The literatus Yun Sun pursued calligraphy that was “dry yet powerful, and not oriented toward secular beauty” like the old Chinese master Mi Fu from the Northern Song Dynasty. Yun Sun’s in-depth studies into calligraphy theory were continued by the scholar Yi Gwangsa (1705-1777). This work features a poem by the Southern Song literatus Zhu Xi transcribed by Yun Sun in the running and cursive scripts. Yun’s lively and unrestrained brushwork clearly stands out.
