A Grand Gathering for Hunting in the Countryside in Fall and Winter

Kim Duryang, a court painter at the Royal Bureau of Painting (Dohwaseo) during the reign of King Yeongjo (r. 1724-1776), created a preparatory drawing for this painting. Kim Deokha added the colors. This painting presents four scenes, two each for winter and fall. One winterscape includes a scene of people hunting pheasants or roe deer in the field and the other depicts a homestead with children reading books, two scholars conversing, and a woman weaving. The following autumn scenes show women carrying snacks across a field with the harvest in full swing and people threshing with a flail in the yard.
