This ceramic bottle produced at the Cizhou kiln in China is characterized by a nicely voluminous shoulder, a thick neck, a flared mouth, and a comparatively high foot, which is also slightly inverted at the base. The entire body of the bottle, from neck to foot, was decorated with the sgraffito technique, which consists of coating the body with white slip and then scraping off the black glaze above it to create a motif in two contrasting colors. The main motif is inspired by the peony flower and is arranged in a scroll form to cover most of the body.
