These dishes are believed to be one of the artifacts excavated from the Jangneung Royal Tomb of King Injong (r. 1123-1146) of the Goryeo Dynasty in Jangdo-myeon, Jangdan-gun, Gyeonggi-do, along with books bearing the inscription “6th Hwangtong Year (1146).” Among the artifacts, the melon-shaped celadon bottle is the most representative of those discovered in this royal tomb. A single incised line encircling its inner bottom is the only decorative feature on these thin, evenly-shaped dishes. They perfectly capture the characteristics of the beautifully austere, unadorned celadon produced in the early 12th century when Goryeo celadon reached its zenith.
