This bluish-white porcelain bottle features a melon-shaped body and a foot formed like a lotus blossom. Widely referred to by the name yeongcheong (or yingqing in Chinese), literally meaning “shadow blue”, ceramic vessels such as this were first made in a Chinese town called Jingdezhen during the early Northern Song period. Like other bluish-white vessels, this bottle exhibits a pure white body covered with a transparent blue glaze.
