This is a portrait of Heungseon Daewongun Yi Ha-eung, the biological father of King Gojong, wearing a gold cap and court attire. He is also wearing a belt with horn ornaments and holding an ivory scepter in his hands. His face was painted using repeated brush strokes, a feature of the hyper-realism technique. The deep color applied in areas surrounding the facial contour lines was intended to create a three-dimensional effect.
