As an auspicious pattern signifying harmony, a parrot design was widely adopted from the earliest days of celadon production. The pattern commonly features a pair of parrots, but this bowl contains three such birds. The parrots seem to be holding each other’s tails in their beaks and are arranged in a counterclockwise direction. They were painted with sharp yet apparently rapid brush strokes.
