This text is one of the Five Classics of Confucianism and the world’s first historical tome written in chronological order. It records the 242-year history of twelve successive kings during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period. Scriptures during this age are typically based on the Chunqiu zuoshichuan (Zuo’s Commentary on the Spring and Autumn Annals). This classic has been regarded as a major Confucian scripture since the Three Kingdoms Period in Korea.
