The Chinese characters on the right state that this portrait belonged to Minister of Personnel Seo Heon-sun. His belt, which was worn by Grade 1 officials, gives a good clue as to when this portrait was produced, as many historical records state that he became a Grade 1 official in 1865. This portrait is also a good example of a retroactive tendency that appeared in such portraits from the mid-19th century on.
