The National Museum of Korea ranks 9th in 2010 museum attendance (1st in Asia)

according to "2010 Total Art Museums Numbers" released by The Art Newspaper

According to the "2010 Total Art Museums Numbers" released by The Art Newspaper, a British publication internationally renowned in the fields of museums and cultural arts, in April 2011, the National Museum of Korea (NMK) has recorded the largest attendance figures in Asia and ranked 9th in the world for 2010 with 3,067,909 visitors.

This shows an increase from its 10th ranking (2.7 million visitors in 2009) as announced in April 2010, which should have resulted from the popular interest towards the various efforts of the museum. The museum has hosted a diversity of special exhibitions from Masterpieces of Goryeo Buddhist Painting (October 11-November 21, 2010) and Golden Splendors: The Royal Tomb of Silla- Hwangnamdaechong (September 7-October 31, 2010), to The Great Myth and Mystery of Peruvian Civilization: INCA (January 2-March 28, 2010). The NMK has also invited the public to the venue that hosted G20 Seoul Summit Reception and Working Dinner, developed the facilities of Children's Museum, conducted educational programs for different groups in the society, and extended hours(~9pm) on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Among the eleven local national museums in Korea that have also participated in the survey, the Gyeongju National  Museum ranked 22nd in the world with 1.4 million visitors and the Gongju National Museum placed 91st with 551,922.
