Tanged Points
Tanged Points
Tanged points are sharpened stone blades, usually 5 to 10 cm in length, which could be attached to a shaft to form a spear. One end of a long, thin stone was sharpened to form the triangular tang, while the other end was worked into a short point that could be easily tied or fitted to the shaft. These tools first appeared in the Late Paleolithic period, demonstrating the advancement of blade technology. By allowing people to hunt or attack from a great distance, tanged points played a crucial role in helping humans to adapt to the changing natural environment.
