Cleaver

Cleaver
Cleavers are shaped like handaxes, but with a wider and sharper cutting edge. This edge could be produced by striking the pointed end of a handaxe, but in some cases, a pre-existing edge that had been formed unintentionally when chipping away flakes from the stone core was used. The body and base of most cleavers were reworked, but the cutting edge was usually left untouched. The angle of the sharpened edge reveals that such tools were used for cutting.
