Jeongnija Types (Joseon Metal Types)

Metal types known as “jeongnija” were originally made in 1796 to print Jeongni Uigwe Tongpyeon (Comprehensive Uigwe for King Jeongjo’s Procession to His Father’s Tomb). The typeface was based on the Kangxi Dictionary from China’s Qing Dynasty. In 1857, the office where the original types were stored was destroyed by fire, so these jeongnija were made one year later to replace the originals.
