This is an official seal carved with four Chinese characters (學部之印), meaning “the seal of Hakbu.” Hakbu was one of the eight central administrative departments under the Uijeongbu (State Council) during the late Joseon Dynasty, and was in charge of educational administration. It was renamed Hangmuamun in 1895 (the 32nd year of King Gojong’s reign), but was abolished in 1910.
