These are some of the first modern silver coins made in 1882 during the Joseon Period. Their head is inscribed with Chinese letters indicating the value of the coin, and their tail is inscribed with the Chinese character 戶 ("ho") inside a small medallion, suggesting that it was manufactured at the Hojo (Ministry of Taxation). These silver coins were produced using silver sycee purchased from the Qing Dynasty of China, and it began to be circulated in the 11th lunar month of 1882.
