Portrait of King Taejo
In the early Joseon period, six portrait halls were built around the country, for the purposes of enshrining portraits of King Taejo. Although records show that a total of twenty-six portraits of King Taejo were produced, this is the only copy of those portraits that has survived. This painting, made in 1872, is a copy of the original, which was first enshrined in Gyeonggijeon Hall in Jeonju in 1410, and later restored in 1763.
