This Uigwe captures the process of bestowing a temple name and posthumous title upon Joseon’s second ruler, King Jeongjong, and an honorific title on his consort, Queen Jeongan. King Jeongjong’s temple name was not decided at the time of his death, but later, during the reign of King Sukjong, the temple name Jeongjong and the posthumous title of “Uimunjangmu (懿文莊武)” were bestowed upon King Jeongjong.
This Uigwe book for royal perusal still retains its original form. The green silk cover of the book features patterns consisting of phoenixes and flowers. Brass rivets and chrysanthemum decorations were affixed to bind the book, and the book title, written on a separate piece of white silk fabric, was attached to the book cover, adding a sense of magnificence to the book.
