Flowers and Trees
This folding screen with flowers and trees in various shapes was painted by Yi Hancheol, a court painter from the Dohwaseo (Royal Bureau of Painting). Flowers in the form of a cut plant without roots and portions of tree trunks and branches are illustrated across the long picture planes of the ten-panel folding screen. In each panel, a sentence about the symbolism of the flowers and trees or about historical events and famous sayings related to them is written in a way that harmonizes with the subjects of the paintings.
