Insects(right) and Flowers (left)

A mantis on a wisteria branch watches a butterfly as if it is eyeing its prey. The layered pigment technique was used to create a sense of three-dimensionality in the wisteria petals. Applying a thick layer of white lead pigment with purple on top of it gives the illusion of protruding petals.
