Printing Woodblock for the Illustration Depicting the Content of the Lotus Sutra

The Lotus Sutra is the most widely read Buddhist sutra in East Asia. It was the most commonly reproduced in Korea since the Goryeo period since possessing, reading, and transcribing it was considered an act of accumulating merits. This printing woodblock is carved with images on both sides. The depiction of a rear view of a Bodhisattva sitting in front of the Buddha and listening to his sermon suggests that this block is part of the illustrations for the Lotus Sutra.
