Printing Woodblock of the Life and Activities of Sakyamuni Buddha Incarnate

This is a printing woodblock for The Life and Activities of Shakyamuni Buddha Incarnate, which contains stories of Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, the development of Buddhism, and the transmission of Buddhism to China. This book was first compiled in China in 1425 (during the Ming Dynasty), circulated among commoners, and introduced to Korea around the seventeenth century. The woodblock presented here shares similarities in its organization and in the composition of its illustrations with the version published in 1711 at Seonunsa Temple in Gochang.
