In this work, various types of butterflies and moths are depicted on red paper ornately adorned with a sprinkling of gold dust. Nam Gyeu often caught and observed butterflies. Based on his observations, he illustrated their wings in great detail. Nam’s depictions of butterflies are so true to life that viewers can tell not only the species of butterflies, but also the seasons in which the male and female butterflies are born.
