Flowers and Butterflies

This painting depicts butterflies flying freely near flowers growing around a strange rock. It was painted on paper adorned with thin metal foil. The composition and some of the standardized movements of butterflies are influences from painting manuals. However, the painter of this painting provided variation through a contrast between the lightly colored flowers and stems without ink lines and the thick layers of dark color on the red flower petals and butterflies.
