Known for mastering the Three Perfections of poetry, calligraphy, and painting, Shin Wi was particularly well versed in painting bamboo. He depicted bamboo stems as flexible and elegant and set the culms diagonally across the composition. His bamboo paintings leave extensive blank space to inspire a light and relaxed feeling. When illustrating more than two bamboo stalks, Shin depicted one of them in dark ink and the others in lighter tones.
