Landscapes of the Four Seasons

Kim Sucheol, a middle-class painter active in the nineteenth century, produced a vast body of landscape paintings based on a novel aesthetic created through the bold omission of subjects and the use of simple brushwork. In this folding screen, Kim drew light outlines that seem effortless. Such simplicity and lack of restraint are appealing features of paintings by Kim.
