Contrition in the Name of Amitabha Buddha

Contrition in the Name of Amitabha Buddha is a ritual manual expounding on methods of practicing repentance ritual addressed to Amitabha Buddha. According to the postscript to this manual, in 1474 Grand Queen Dowager Jeonghui (the wife of King Sejo) ordered Seong Im to publish it in order to pray for the repose of the soul of Queen Gonghye of the Han clan (the wife of King Seongjong) after her death and honor several deceased previous kings and queens. The list of donors in this manual includes court ladies which indicates that its publication was a nationally large-scale project.
