Avalokiteshvara is sitting comfortably on a rock rising out from the waves. A green halo surrounds his head while a radiant nimbus emanates from his body. On the sides of the rock are a kundika with a willow branch, a bamboo tree, and a bird flying in the sky. The Dragon King worships Avalokiteshvara in the left section of the painting, and Sudhana places his hands together as a sign of respect on the right. While Water-Moon Avalokiteshvara paintings from the Goryeo dynasty depict the deity gazing down with affection at Sudhana when he visits him, those from the Joseon dynasty show the deity facing the front. The shapes of the rock and kundika in Joseon paintings differ from those in Goryeo paintings.
