This painting of the Vulture Peak Assembly usually depicts Shakyamuni Buddha and a number of deities including Bodhisattvas and Four Guardian Kings. This painting depicts only seven sacred beings: two Buddhas and four Bodhisattvas around Shakyamuni Buddha. Shakyamuni is placed in the center of the painting. Prabhutaratna Buddha, who admires Shakyamuni’s sermons as the genuine truth, and Amitabha Buddha, who guides the soul of the dead to his paradise, are emerging from auspicious clouds. In the lower section of the painting are standing Avalokiteshvara, Mahasthamaprapta, Manjushri, and Samantabhadra Bodhisattvas. Some gwaebul (large Buddhist hanging scrolls) produced in Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do Provinces in the eighteenth century include these seven Buddhist deities.
