Stele for National Preceptor Jingong at Heungbeopsa Temple

These are broken pieces of a stone monument erected to National Preceptor Jingong (眞空大師) at Heungbeopsa temple (興法寺). The stele contained a eulogy of King Taejo (太祖, r. 918-943) of Goryeo, carved with characters selected from the calligraphy of Emperor Taizong (太宗) of Tang Dynasty. There was at the back a memorial sent to the king by the priest. The king’s eulogy exhibit the robust and grand running script developed by Wang Xizhi (王羲之). The site of Heungbeopsa temple is located in Wonju-si, Gangwon-do.
