Maebyeong, Vase with Lotus
This maebyeong is characterized by a bold yet graceful form highlighted by broad shoulders and a narrow waist. During the Goryeo period, maebyeong were called jun and were used to store liquids such as honey or oil. The body of this example is decorated with incised lotus patterns, with the petals sculpted in relief using slanted carving to create a sense of depth.
