Celadon Maebyeong, Vase with Cranes and Clouds with slip-painted and iron-brown underglaze designs
Celadon vessels coated entirely with iron oxide and fired after applying a celadon glaze display a black hue and appear like black-glazed wares. Despite their black color, such vessels are still categorized as celadon since they were made using the clay and glaze typical of celadon. This example features designs of the black-and-white contrast between the base and designs present an exquisite harmony.
