Celadon Covered Box·Cup and Stand painted in underglaze copper-red

The copper underglaze coating technique involves applying copper pigment across the entire surface so that the finished piece displays a dark brownish-red hue. Copper pigment was considered a difficult material to handle because it vaporizes around the temperatures reached when firing celadon. However, the remarkable technical prowess of time allowed the successful production of celadon decorated with copper underglaze.
