Gold leaf can be applied to the glazed surfaces of completed ceramics and then affixed by firing the vessel another time to temperatures of approximately 700-800℃. There is also a record of an envoy named Jo In-gyu (1237–1308) presenting Kublai Khan (r. 1260–1294) of the Yuan dynasty with a gift of ceramics decorated with gold.
