Celadon Lobed Vase and Flattened Jar coated with iron-glaze
These are vessels that have been fired after applying a coat of iron oxide underglaze. Only a small number of pieces in this style have survived until today. This vase and jar were made by carving out designs on the surface, filling the carved areas with white clay, and
then firing them after applying iron oxide across the vessel except for the designed areas. The dark brown iron oxide and the white clay
create a strong contrast, presenting a striking decorative effect.
