Shards·Saggars / Celadon·Clay
The excavation survey of the kiln site in Bangsan-dong in Siheung, Gyeonggido
Province produced ceramic shards from immediately beneath a deposited
layer of celadon, providing a glimpse into the beginnings of early celadon when
earthenware was transitioning to porcelaneous ware. The saggars used for
firing high-quality celadon uncovered from the site are inscribed with Chinese
designations such as “奉化” (Fenghua), suggesting a close relationship with
the Yue kilns in China.
