Jar with Plum and Bamboo, White porcelain painted in underglaze iron-brown

This white porcelain jar with a robust round body features iron-brown underglaze designs of bamboo and plum executed in the skillful brushwork of a court painter. Plum blossoms, the primary motif for white porcelain with blue underglaze designs, are often arranged together with bamboo. This jar is presumed to have been used in the royal court and is one of the most prominent examples of white porcelain with iron underglaze designs from the period.
