Bowl with Inscription of “天”, White porcelain
On the outer bottom of this bowl is an inscription of “cheon” (天), meaning “the heavens”. White porcelain bowls and dishes produced at the official court kilns during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were marked with Chinese characters, including “cheon,” “ji” (earth), “hyeon” (black), and “hwang” (yellow), for efficient management of their use.
