Gilt-silver Gourd-shaped Bottle
Gilt-silver Gourd-shaped Bottle
Gourd-shaped bottles were quite popular in northern China after the fall of the Five Dynasties in the late tenth century, and such bottles were also produced in the Goryeo period. This particular bottle has the finest form and decoration of any extant Goryeo gourd-shaped bottle. The decorative patterns were first executed with the repoussé technique, with fine lines then added through incision. The space around the main patterns was pressed with a punched-ring mold, enhancing the three-dimensionality.
