Bronze Bell with Inscription: “Cheonheungsa”

Bronze Bell with Inscription: “Cheonheungsa”
This bell is the oldest extant bell of the Goryeo period, and it features many decorative details that were carried over from the preceding Unified Silla period, such as the placement of the inscription inside a frame that is shaped like a mortuary tablet. Another distinctive trait is the style of the dragon, with protruding fangs, flared nostrils, wide eyes staring straight ahead, and a jewel in its mouth. The inscription reveals that the bell was produced at Cheonheungsa Temple near Mt. Seonggeo in Cheonan in 1010.
