This painting album was created with paintings and calligraphic texts describing selected scenes from the 54 chapters of The Tail of Genji. They were produced by a painter from the Tosa school dedicated to paintings of the Kyoto court, and are characterized by elaborate and detailed portrayal of the costumes of the figures and the background scenery.
