This particular miniature four-story pavilion
During the Han Dynasty, the Chinese maintained a tradition of holding elaborate funerals which often involved the custom of burying a variety of funerary objects. These grave goods included miniature models of buildings such as houses, kitchens, cattle sheds, mills, and outhouses, which were supposed to help the deceased to continue living the comfortable life they had enjoyed before death. This particular miniature four-story pavilion is known to be related with the belief in Daoist immortals and the wish for eternal life.
