To become a member, you must agree to the Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy of the National Museum of Korea.

Chapter 1 General Rules

Article 1 (Purpose)

The purpose of these Terms of Use is to stipulate the terms, conditions and procedures for the use of all services (hereinafter referred to as “the Services”) provided by the National Museum of Korea (hereinafter referred to as “the Museum”) website, including the rights, obligations, and responsibilities of the Museum and its users, and other necessary matters.

Article 2 (Definition of terms)
  1. The terms used in these Terms and Conditions are defined as follows:
    1. 1. 'Site' refers to all sites that use the address museum.go.kr, including the representative website of the Museum. However, it excludes the websites of affiliated local museums, e-museums, and Museum Academies, which are subject to their own service guidelines.
    2. 2. 'Users' refers to the registered Members and non-members who use the services provided by the Museum's website in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.
    3. 3. 'Subscription or Sign in' refers to the act of completing the service contract by filling in the relevant information on the registration screen provided by the Museum's website, thereby agreeing to these Terms and Conditions.
    4. 4. 'Member(s)' refers to persons who have completed subscription to membership by providing their personal information to the Museum's website.
    5. 5. 'Member ID' means a combination of Roman letters and numerals that is either set by a Member or assigned to a Member by the Museum in order to be able to identify its Members and enable them to use the Services.
    6. 6. 'Password' means a combination of Roman letters, numerals, and special characters set by a Member to certify that the user and the registered Member are the same person in order to protect his/her personal information during online communication.
    7. 7. 'Withdrawal' refers to the termination of the service contract by the Museum or a Member.
  2. Any terms that are not defined in Paragraph 1 among those used in these Terms and Conditions will be interpreted as defined in the relevant statutes or regulations, or as defined by the site-specific user guidelines, or they will be defined in accordance with general practices.
Article 3 (Effects of and amendments to the Terms and Conditions)
  1. When a Member agrees to these Terms and Conditions, they will apply to the provision of the Museum’s services by the Museum's website and the users' use of the services and will take precedence over any other terms and conditions.
  2. The Museum may amend these Terms and Conditions without prior notice. The amended Terms and Conditions will be posted on the Museum's Website, and the Members will be notified thereof via email, text message, etc., and they will take effect immediately upon their publication.
  3. Members may withdraw their membership if they do not agree to the amended Terms and Conditions. However, if they continue to use the Website, they will be considered to have consented to the amended Terms and Conditions.
Article 4 (Applicable rules other than these Terms and Conditions)
  1. The Museum may determine additional terms and conditions and service rules for individual services if required (hereinafter referred to as “Service-specific Information”), and any such additional terms and conditions and service rules will prevail over these Terms and Conditions.
  2. Any matters not specified in these Terms and Conditions will be governed by the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act, the Telecommunications Business Act, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, or other related statutes or regulations.

Chapter 2 Constitution and Termination of Service Contract

Article 5 (Constitution of service contracts)
  1. The service contract is constituted when a person who wants to become a Member agrees to these Terms and Conditions and completes his or her subscription to the membership.
  2. Service users can consent to the Terms and Conditions by pressing the 'Agree' button on the website at the time of subscribing to the membership.
Article 6 (Membership subscription and withdrawal)
  1. Membership is constituted when a person who wishes to become a Member completes his/her subscription to the membership by filling the information required on the prescribed Membership application form.
  2. Members must provide their own personal information to use the service. Those who steal or fraudulently use other people's information or register false information cannot claim any rights in relation to the use of the services, and may be punished in accordance with the relevant statutes and regulations.
  3. A user’s membership may be revoked under any of the following circumstances:
    1. 1. When a Member subscribes to [registered] the membership using another person’s name and personal information;
    2. 2. When a Member indicates false information in the membership application form;
    3. 3. When a minor below the age of 14 fails to obtain the consent of his/her legal agent (parent, etc.);
    4. 4. When a Member or user obstructs other people's use of the services or steals their information, etc.;
    5. 5. When a Member uses the Site to commit acts prohibited by the relevant statutes and regulations or these Terms and Conditions; or
    6. 6. When a Member fails to satisfy any other requirements for membership subscription set forth by the Site.
  4. If a Member wishes to terminate the service contract, he/she must withdraw from the membership him/herself.
  5. When a Member withdraws from the membership, the processing and use of his/her personal information will cease immediately, and his/her personal information will be destroyed at the same time as the withdrawal is processed by the system.
Article 7 (Assigning or changing the Member ID)
  1. The Museum may assign an ID to a Member as stipulated in the Service Terms and Conditions.
  2. In principle, the Member ID should not be changed. If a Member wishes to change it due to an unavoidable cause or reason, he/she must re-register with a new Member ID after withdrawing from the membership first.
  3. Members should not use IDs belonging to those whose personal information has been destroyed due to expiration of the retention period or whose membership has been withdrawn or revoked.
  4. If a user’s Member ID is inappropriate or violates the provisions of Article 14 of these Terms and Conditions, the Museum may revoke its assignment of his/her Member ID at its discretion or request the user to change or delete it.
  5. Members are responsible for the custodianship of their ID and password, and they will be responsible for any damages that they may incur due to their careless or negligent custody of their ID and password or its unauthorized use by a third party. The Museum will not be liable for any such damages.
  6. Other matters related to the custody or a change of the Members' personal information are regulated as stipulated in the service-specific guidelines.
Article 8 (Protection and use of personal information)
  1. The Museum protects its Members' information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
  2. The Museum will not provide or leak its Members' personal information collected in connection with the provision of the Services to any third party without obtaining the prior consent of the Members.     3. 3. When required by the Personal Information Protection Act or other relevant statutes or regulations.
  3. Only the Members themselves may review, modify or delete their personal information. The Members must control their passwords, etc. thoroughly in order to prevent them from being exposed to other persons or entities. In the event that they discover that their ID or password has been used illegally by others, they must report it to the museum immediately. The Members will be responsible for any damages caused by their failure to report such illegal use of their password, etc. The Members must also assume all responsibility for any problems that may arise from the use of an ID by which their individual identity may be authenticated.

Chapter 3 Provision and Use of the Services

Article 9 (Provision of services)
  1. The Museum will start to provide its Services to the Member upon completion of his/her membership subscription.
  2. The Website Services will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year unless an extraordinary operational or technical obstacle arises. However, the Museum may suspend the Services on a day or time determined by the Museum for regular maintenance, extension, and replacement of its system. The Museum will notify the Members of the suspension of its Services due to scheduled maintenance or upgrading work in advance on the Museum's website.
  3. The Museum may temporarily suspend all or a part of the Services without prior notice in the event of unavoidable causes, such as urgent system maintenance, extension and replacement, equipment failure, a sudden surge in service traffic, a national emergency, or a power outage.
  4. The Museum may suspend all or a part of its Services with giving prior notice to the Members when required for the reorganization of its Services or a similar operational upgrade.
Article 10 (Modification of services)
  1. The Museum may correct, suspend or modify all or a part of its Services with prior notice as required for its policy or operational causes.
  2. For any change made to the contents, method and time of use of the Services, the Museum will post the reason for the change, the content of the Services to be changed, and the start date of their provision on the initial screen of the relevant Services at least 7 days prior to the change.
Article 11 (Restriction of service use)
  1. The Museum may restrict the use of its Services, terminate the service contract, or take other appropriate actions in the event that a Member violates Article 14 of these Terms and Conditions or commits any of the following violations:
    1. 1. Acts of registering fraudulent details in the Membership information, stealing another person's Member ID, password, or other personal information, or trading or providing them to others;
    2. 2. Acts of transmitting, posting, emailing, or otherwise disseminating contents that violate the public order, or transmitting vulgar, obscene or indecent contents to others;
    3. 3. Acts of arbitrarily altering all or a part of the programs and sites provided, or information posted, by the Museum without being authorized by the Museum;
    4. 4. Acts of impersonating the management, staff members or other officials of the Museum or maliciously obstructing the normal operation of the services;
    5. 5. When correction is requested by a related agency, including the Korea Communications Standards Commission; or
    6. 6. Acts that violate any of the regulations set by the Museum, including these Terms and Conditions, or acts that violate any statutes or regulations, including those objectively judged to be connected with a crime.
Article 12 (Provision and cancellation of reservation services)
  1. The Museum provides a reservation function for some of the Website services. The reservation lead period varies depending on the reservation services. This follows the information specified for each reservation service.
  2. The Museum specifies the details of the reservation service used by the Members on their respective “My Page”.
  3. The Museum sends a “Receipt confirmed” notice to the Members upon receiving a service request from them.   4. The Members may submit a request for cancellation of a reservation through the Website or by a personal visit to the Museum. Chapter 4 Obligations and Responsibilities of the Contract Parties

Article 13 (Obligations of the Museum)
  1. In order to provide stable services continuously, the Museum will repair or restore damaged or destroyed service facilities without delay unless there is an unavoidable reason for not doing so.
  2. The Museum will deploy a security system to protect the Members’ personal information so that they can use the Services safely. It will also publish and comply with its Privacy Policy.
  3. The Museum will promptly handle opinions or complaints raised by the Members through the appropriate procedures if they are objectively recognized to be justified. However, if they can hardly be handled immediately, the Museum will notify the Members of the reason for the delay and the schedule for handling them.
  4. The Museum will not be held responsible for any service failure attributable to the Members.
Article 14 (Duties of the Members)
  1. The Members must fill in all forms for membership subscription or requests to revise their Membership information based on their own accurate information. They will be unable to claim any rights related thereto if they register false information or other people's personal information.
  2. The Members must comply with the relevant statutes and regulations, the provisions of these Terms and Conditions, the User Guide, and the rules notified by the Museum. They must not commit any acts that interfere with the Museum's services, damage the reputation of the Museum, or cause damages to others.
  3. The Members must not allow any third parties to use their Member ID or password. They must immediately notify the Museum of any changes to their service contract provisions through the relevant procedures.
  4. The Members must not engage in any activities for the purpose of commercial gain while using the Services without obtaining the Museum's prior consent. The Museum will not bear any responsibility for the consequences of such commercial activities. In addition, if the Museum incurs damages due to such commercial activities, the Member concerned will be legally required to compensate the Museum for such damages, and the Museum may restrict that Member’s use of the Services and may also claim compensation for the damages through due process.
  5. Unless specifically consented to by the Museum, the Members must not transfer, donate or pledge to any third party as collateral any of their authority to use the service and any other position or status they have acquired under the service contract.
  6. The Members must not copy, reproduce, alter, translate, publish, broadcast, or otherwise use any information they obtain while using the Museum's services, nor provide such information to other persons or parties without obtaining the prior consent of the Museum.
  7. The Members must not infringe any rights belonging to the Museum or third parties, including their intellectual property rights, and they must not commit any of the acts listed below:
    1. 1. Acts of unlawfully using the ID of other members;
    2. 2. Acts aimed at criminal acts or other acts connected to crime;
    3. 3. Acts that harm good customs and the prevailing social order;
    4. 4. Acts that defame or tarnish other people's honor or reputation;
    5. 5. Acts that infringe the intellectual property or other rights of others;
    6. 6. Acts of hacking computers or spreading computer viruses;
    7. 7. Acts of continuously transmitting certain contents such as advertising information against the will of others; or
    8. 8. Other acts that impede or are feared to impede the stable operation of the services provided by the Museum

Chapter 5 Compensation of damages and Other Matters

Article 15 (Compensation of damages)

The Museum and the Members must compensate any damages sustained by another person or party due to their intentional or negligent acts in connection with the use of the Services.

Article 16 (Immunity)
  1. The Museum will be exempt from liability for providing the Services when it becomes unable to provide the Services due to a natural disaster, war, suspension of service by a facilities-based telecommunications operator, or other equivalent force majeure events.
  2. The Museum is exempt from liability for damages caused by unavoidable causes such as repair, replacement, regular inspection, or construction work related to its Service facilities.
  3. The Museum will not be liable for any damages caused by a Member’s computer error or accidental entry of incorrect personal information or an incorrect email address.
  4. The Museum will not be liable for any loss of or failure to obtain the results expected by the Members from using the Services. The Museum will not be liable for any damages caused by data that the Members obtain while using the Services.
  5. The Museum is not obligated to intervene in disputes arising between Members and between Members and third parties that arise through their use of the Services. The Museum is not liable for any damages resulting therefrom.
Article 17(Court jurisdiction)

In the event that a lawsuit is filed for a dispute arising from the use of the Services, the Seoul Central District Court will be the court of first instance.

Addendum

1. These Terms and Conditions shall apply from January 24, 2025.

Privacy Policy

All personal information maintained by the National Museum of Korea are is collected, possessed, and processed pursuant to relevant regulations or to consent from the information owners.

The Act for Protection of Personal Information by Public Agencies provides the general standards about the handling of such personal information. NMK shall manage such information which is collected, possessed, and processed in legitimate and proper ways under by adhering to regulations for the purpose of appropriate execution of public affairs and protection of people’s rights.

Pursuant to relevant regulations, members will be honored to have the right to read, right to and request for correction, etc. for such personal information that NMK possesses. Members are entitled to file administrative judgment subsequent to Administrative Judgment Act for any infringement on of their own legal rights.
