Special Lecture on Polish Art
  • Date 2016-06-13

This free lecture in English (with Korean translation) will focus on two crucial moments in modern Polish history and the history of Polish art 1918  and 1989. The first date marks the moment of regaining independence by the Polish state after World War 1.  Political events that led to the creation of a modern, independent state have been accompanied by an evolution of a dynamic art scene with different modernist and avant-garde movements that collided with traditionalist currents in Polish culture.

On the other hand 1989 marks the fall of communism and the political and economic shift that brought about the present democratic Poland. After decades of communist rule (1944-1989) the art scene, its institutions and art practices have went through a fundamental transformation.  No reservation needed.
