The painting illustrates the teachings of The Sutra of Erasing Sins and Protecting Children for Longevity. Although the opening section of the sutra has been damaged, two illustrations remain intact. One depicts the story of King Prasenajit, who encounters a grieving mother mourning the loss of her child. Seeking a way to alleviate her suffering, the king consults the Buddha. The Buddha imparts the teachings contained within this sutra, cleansing her sins and offering liberation from their anguish.
